Prashant Tamang Dies at 43: Singer and actor Prashant Tamang, best known as the winner of Indian Idol Season 3 and for his powerful performance as an assassin in Paatal Lok Season 2, passed away on Sunday (Prashant Tamang Dies at 43) after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 43 years old.

According to close friend and singer Mahesh Sewa, Tamang collapsed at his residence in Janak Puri, New Delhi, around 9 am. He was immediately rushed to a hospital by his family, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“I am completely shocked. I spoke to him just a few days ago and he was absolutely fine,” Sewa said, expressing grief over the sudden loss.

Prashant Tamang’s mortal remains are currently at the hospital. His family is yet to decide whether the last rites will be performed in Delhi or his hometown Darjeeling, where he enjoyed immense love and respect.

The tragic news was first shared publicly by his close friend Rajesh Ghatani, who paid an emotional tribute on social media.

From Darjeeling to National Stardom

Born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, Prashant Tamang belonged to a Nepali-speaking Gorkha family. After losing his father, who served in the West Bengal Police, Tamang left school to take up his father’s job to support his family.

His life changed dramatically in 2007 when, encouraged by friends, he auditioned for Indian Idol. His victory in Season 3 sparked massive celebrations across Darjeeling, Sikkim, and Nepal, making him a cultural icon overnight.

Musical Journey and Acting Career

Tamang released his debut album “Dhanyavaad” in 2010 and went on to perform extensively in India and abroad. The same year, he made his acting debut with the Nepali film Gorkha Paltan, which became a major hit.

He later acted in several Nepali films, including:

His most recent and widely acclaimed performance was in Paatal Lok Season 2, where he played Daniel Lecho, a cold-blooded assassin, earning praise for his intensity and screen presence.

Prashant Tamang will be seen posthumously in the upcoming Salman Khan-starrer “Battle of Galwan”, scheduled to release in theatres on April 17. Fans are already calling it a tribute-worthy performance.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed deep sorrow over Tamang’s demise, calling him an artist of national renown with strong roots in Bengal.

Former Indian Idol contestant Amit Paul, the runner-up of Season 3, shared an emotional note on Instagram, saying he was unable to process the loss of his “brother and friend.”

Prashant Tamang is survived by his wife Geeta Thapa and their four-year-old daughter Ariah Tamang. He often shared heartfelt moments with his family on social media, giving fans a glimpse into his personal life.
